Transforming strategic accounts into growth partnerships.

Milwaukee Tools

Growth left on the table. Now claimed.

Milwaukee sought to unlock greater value from its most important customer relationships. While the business was highly successful in product, pricing and promotion, there was a growing belief that significant growth opportunities remained untapped within key accounts.

To realise this opportunity, Milwaukee needed to move beyond transactional customer engagement and establish a more strategic, insight-led approach to account growth.

The Challenge

Strategic opportunities existed, but the approach remained transactional.

Milwaukee's account teams were highly capable, but customer engagement was largely focused on short-term commercial activity. While strong relationships existed, there was limited structure for identifying, prioritising and pursuing longer-term growth opportunities with strategic customers.

The organisation needed a more consistent approach to:

  • Understanding customer priorities and challenges

  • Identifying mutual growth opportunities

  • Aligning internal stakeholders around strategic accounts

  • Building deeper, longer-term customer partnerships

  • Creating repeatable account growth disciplines

Our Approach

Creating a strategic account growth framework.

Rather than focusing solely on sales activity, the program centred on building a structured approach to strategic account development.

Key initiatives included:

  • Mapping customer value chains to uncover growth opportunities

  • Identifying areas of shared value and mutual benefit

  • Facilitating strategic planning with customer stakeholders

  • Designing actionable growth initiatives and engagement plans

  • Building internal capability to support strategic partnering

  • Developing a repeatable playbook for strategic account management

The Outcome

From supplier relationships to strategic growth partnerships.

Milwaukee transformed the way it engaged with key customers, creating greater alignment around long-term growth opportunities and shared value creation.

The program delivered:

  • Stronger customer alignment and engagement

  • Clearer growth priorities and initiatives

  • More strategic and collaborative customer relationships

  • Improved internal alignment around key accounts

  • A repeatable framework for future account growth programs

  • Expansion of the Strategic Partner Program across additional customers

Most importantly, Milwaukee shifted from a transactional sales approach towards a more deliberate and scalable model for strategic account growth.
